New York-based journalist, author and expert on global press freedom
I am a journalist, author and advocate for press freedom. I research, write and speak publicly on threats to journalists and media freedom globally and work to promote the safety of journalists.
As a leader of the Committee to Protect Journalists, a US-based nonprofit at the forefront of the fight for free media, I organized international missions to report on attacks on the press and to advocate with governments for the rights of journalists.
I am a skilled negotiator, coalition builder, team leader and media trainer in multicultural environments. I have extensive global experience as a news executive and foreign correspondent having covered world stories for Reuters news agency. I have lived in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.
I am co-author of a 2022 book "The Infodemic, How Censorship and Lies Made the World Sicker and Less Free". I am always looking for new challenges in the media freedom and safety field.
